Are you sure it is from South America? I have a vest that is almost identical that was bought by my parents in China at the Kashgar Bazaar in 1986. It was made by the Uygur people (who are an ethnic minority). The pandas should be a tip-off-none live in South America! ;)

@griffamura91 thank you so much for correcting my post. My parents brought this back from one of their worldwide travels around that same year. And, yes, they went to China. I will change my post. I appreciate your input.

My parents were also avid world travelers and I have a few items that I can't remember which country it came from! I love the incredible workmanship of the vests. Mine has some type of insulation that sounds like paper. I always thought if I opened it up there would be a papers essentially saying "save us". Even almost 40 years ago, the Chinese were brutally suppressing the Uygur people. My parent's Chinese minder "guide" didn't even want them to buy anything Uygur. Bah!
