When you remove your earrings, bracelet or necklace, it is best to store them correcly layed out, or hang them up, so they don't get kinked or twisted up in a full jewelry box or storage container. Save the earring cards that I include with most earrings and use the stoppers that I also routinely include for most type of wire earrings, to attach them to the cards.
