The bottom compartment is the primary camera space, which is padded and you can change configuration with velco. There's a zipper that open upper main compartment giving access to the bottom. The back laptop area is padded. The main (black) shell of the bag in not padded, but the majority, not all, of the yellow you see is padded. Couple additional pictures added.

The yellow shell in the second picture is a waterproof cover that you call pull over the outside of the bag.

Sorry for delay. Very light wear on the side pocket where the trip would sit and similar wear on the front at the bottom of the those pockets. I had to look really closely to identify the wear.
