while this is stretch, it is not as stretchy as modern stretch velvet. beautifully made, it is lined in a possibly nylon or poly marquisette/power net which stabilizes it (yet is also stretchy). lovely shaped yoke at waist accentuates gathered bust. decorative buttons at bodice front, zips up back. orange roses on black ground with touches of pale ballet pink, gray, & straw. the sleeve heads are not truly puffed or gathered, they are just exceptionally well eased into the bodice (likely by hand). bust 31-34,” waist is 24-27,” hips are 33-37,” sleeves are 24” long, wrist opening is 6-8,” dress is 58” long. marked a French 38, but vintage runs much smaller. this is more of a size 2-to a smallish 4.
