Vintage Native American Indian Maiden Princess Warrior Rearing Horse Sculpture
On this very detailed Sculpture, An Indian maiden, wearing a full headdress rides atop a rearing horse. While the manly version is more common, the beautiful maiden is quite rare to find especially with no breaks.
Interestingly, her horse bears a handprint. A Handprint on the shoulder was an oath of vengeance. Hail marks symbolized a prayer for the horse and rider to fall upon the enemy like hail. Snake symbol represented speed or stealth. Handprint of any color symbolized an accomplished mission.
She seems to be made of ceramic or plaster. Her bottom is hollow.
This sculpture is circa 1960s, some sites say 1950s. She has no chips cracks or repairs and is in excellent vintage condition.
