Fabulous vintage, probably 1940's, gold filled Kyoto inlay damascene bracelet made in Japan.
Seven ( 7 ) discs, depicting seven scenes, intricately decorated in 24kt gold and sterling silver.
Approx 7" in length.
Attached safety chain is 3.50".
Each disc is approx .75" in diameter.
Clasp fastens tightly.
This bracelet is super rare due to the open round oval-shaped design of the discs.
Damascene is one of Japan's oldest traditional crafts, its history stretching back more than a thousand years. The decorative technique was frequently used on the hilts of weapons, achieving great popularity in Kyoto during the Edo Period (1603 to 1868).
The design motifs used in damascene jewelry made in Kyoto typically reflect traditional Japanese subject matter. By 1936, more than half of the damascene items made in Japan were being exported, mainly to the United States and England.
Kyotoโs distinctive style stands out in that metals like pure gold and silver are inlayed into boxes, creating delicate works of art with beautiful shining gold and silver detail on jet-black surfaces.
Much of this work is credited to a company called Amita. The Amita stamp does not appear on this bracelet. However, it is stamped Japan.
Amazing, incredible find!
Nice patina seen. Super preloved vintage condition for its age.
