The classic elegance of mid-century hospitality is evident in this sleek demitasse cup and saucer set. Josiah Wedgwood introduced Black Basalt stoneware in 1768. Of his invention, Wedgwood stated “The Black is sterling, and will last forever.” It was still in high style during the 1950’s and early 1960’s. This pattern was proudly set out for hosting the ladies’ bridge set and special dinner guests and likely gifted for an engagement or marriage. With a matte, fine-grained exterior, and a high gloss black interior.
In beautiful vintage condition
Cup measures 2.25" x 2"
